We manage to play all the songs through in a first, shaky version. Yesterday we focused on the first half of the set, today we’re practicing the second half. By the day’s end, we string up all the songs and have a first run through of the show. It’s good to play everything in order and feel the flow and the energy of the whole thing. Even if songs are still a bit wobbly, it gives a sense of how individual the pieces fit together. It’s also important feedback for the visual team. They need to know the pace of the music too and the feeling of the different sound worlds we’re creating.
ABOUT THIS JOURNAL
This digital journal chronicles the creation process of the musical experience ‘On Moonlight and Rain’, from its inception to the premiere on May 18th 2017. Rather than recounting a hero story, with an uninterrupted string of hooray messages, we’d like to show you what it’s really like to put a big music show together. It involves many dead ends, failures, frustrations and a tremendous amount of confidence that all will be well in the end. Enjoy your read.
