The structures and melodies might be well in place, that doesn’t mean we’re ready to sing. We figure those kind of things out in the vocal rehearsals with Glows only. Harmonizing melodies takes up some time, especially if we stick to the aesthetic rules we invented for ourselves over the years. “A Serpent’s Lust” and “Kibitsu” are harmonized. We don’t have a definite lyric yet, but with the melody and harmony in place, that’s something that can easily be done later. If there’s something else that consumes even more time than coming up with a harmony at the piano, it’s writing a good lyric.
ABOUT THIS JOURNAL
This digital journal chronicles the creation process of the musical experience ‘On Moonlight and Rain’, from its inception to the premiere on May 18th 2017. Rather than recounting a hero story, with an uninterrupted string of hooray messages, we’d like to show you what it’s really like to put a big music show together. It involves many dead ends, failures, frustrations and a tremendous amount of confidence that all will be well in the end. Enjoy your read.
